SMEDLEY AND 'NA
A Dragon and His Girl

In the story that launched it all, Daughter of the Beastly Beauty, 'Na gets a message from her parents that they've found Smedley, her pet dragon that was driven out of the enchanted castle when he accidentally set fire in the castle library.
In subsequent stories, Smedley shows up and even helps in solving some wonky magical problems.
So that got me thinking ... wouldn't 'Na and her pet dragon have fun adventures as they were growing up together?
I've already mentioned in other stories about the fuss at 'Na's christening, and why she was named Belladonna -- shortened to 'Na -- and other bits and pieces that are a good foundation for what's going to be a rollicking good time for two feisty children who can't speak the same language but still understand each other, growing up in a castle filled with broken, insane, wonky, troublesome magic.

Meet 'Na.

Her full name is Belladonna, but her parents only use that name when she's in trouble.

'Na has a pet dragon named Smedley, and they have a lot of fun adventures together. Sometimes scary adventures.

'Na and Smedley and her parents live in the enchanted castle, in the enchanted forest, and magic is everywhere. They travel all over the world, helping people untangle problems with magic.

THE SCENT OF ADVENTURE

I was invited by fellow writer and friend from ACFW Ohio, Bettie Boswell, to share a booth with her at Skunk Fest, taking place in North Ridgeville, Ohio. She has several children's books that she illustrated, with skunks in them, so ... it was a natural.
I got to thinking ... 'Na and Smedley are going to have some crazy adventures. Why not one with skunks in it? Why not write a novella to make available at Skunk Fest?
Thus ...
THE SCENT OF ADVENTURE was born.

One day, 'Na goes on a trip with her parents. This time, they are going to an old castle where magic is helping all sorts of forest animals, especially skunks, get inside and cause problems.

On the journey to the castle, Smedley meets up with a skunk who gives him a crown. What does the skunk want? Smedley can't tell 'Na or her parents, because they don't speak dragon, and Smedley can't speak like people.

But they will figure it out. And 'Na and Smedley will have the most scary and fun adventure of their lives by the time they figure out what the skunk prince wants.

Available in paper and ebook and audio..
And the incredible cover art is done by Bettie Boswell.
Anyone in favor of making Bettie illustrate ALL the Smedley and 'Na adventures?

IN THE GARDEN OF ALWAYS WINTER

Growing up in the enchanted castle with a pet dragon named Smedley is always an adventure. Especially when sleeping magic wakes up and tries to cause trouble.

'Na was given a snow globe full of magic at her christening. Her parents didn't know who sent it to her, so they knew it had to be dangerous. They locked it away until they could find answers.

Then one fall day, the snow globe wakes up and shows a door to a garden at the enchanted castle: The Garden of Always Winter, where snow covers everything.

'Na's parents make her promise not to go through the gate into the garden without them, because it could be dangerous.

She really did want to obey them.

But …
First the gate opened.
Then the snow ogres came through.
Then Smedley picked her up and threw her on his back, and he raced through the gate to get away from the ogres.

What is hiding under the snow?
Is it dangerous?
What can a little girl and her dragon who is still learning how to use his fire do to break a curse hundreds of years old?
